Im Projekt 2 werden die Grundlagen Meterspur der Schienenkopfkonditionierung (SKK) und Spurkranzschmierung (SKS) erarbeitet. Der netzweite, optimierte und kombinierte Einsatz der beiden Systeme soll evaluiert werden. Verschiedene Ziele wurden definiert.
